How Kirk Humanitarian Is Advancing Maternal Nutrition Globally<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

At Global Communities, we believe that the most effective solutions to global health challenges are built on strong partnerships. One of our most impactful collaborations is with Kirk <\/a>Humanitarian<\/a>\u2014a family philanthropy whose commitment to maternal and child health is helping transform antenatal care for pregnant women in low- and middle-income countries worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kirk Humanitarian is the world\u2019s largest procurer and donor of multiple micronutrient supplements (MMS), a proven nutrition intervention that supports healthier pregnancies for women and better birth outcomes for their babies. Their mission is simple but powerful: to ensure that every pregnant woman, regardless of where she lives, has access to the essential nutrients she needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scaling MMS in Indonesia: A Shared Vision<\/strong>
In 2024, Global Communities began integrating MMS into the Continuum of Family Care (CfC) project in Indonesia, a holistic model that connects antenatal, postpartum and early childhood services. Thanks to Kirk Humanitarian\u2019s product donation and our collaboration with implementing partner Vitamin Angels, we were able to launch an implementation research study in partnership with the University of Indonesia\u2019s Center for Family Welfare and local NGO Pembangunan Citra Insan Indonesia Foundation (YPCII).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This study aims to reach over 3,400 pregnant women<\/strong> across four subdistricts in Banten Province. With support from the Indonesian Ministry of Health and local health offices, MMS is being distributed through public health centers (puskesmas), accompanied by tailored communication strategies to improve adherence and community understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kirk Humanitarian\u2019s role goes far beyond product provision. Their long-term investment in implementation science, policy advocacy and local systems strengthening has helped position MMS as a national standard of care in Indonesia. Their partnership model\u2014grounded in trust, transparency and shared learning\u2014has made it possible to scale quickly while maintaining quality and equity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Legacy of Impact: Botswana, Malawi and Beyond<\/strong>
Over the years, Global Communities (formerly PCI) has partnered with Kirk Humanitarian to implement MMS programs in Botswana and Malawi. In Botswana, the program reached thousands of women and was integrated into national health systems with strong local ownership. In Malawi, the focus was on provider training and community engagement, laying the groundwork for sustainable uptake. Since the beginning of our partnership, we have supported the distribution of over 375,000 bottles of MMS not only in Botswana and Malawi, but also in Guatemala, Haiti, Liberia, Zambia and now in Indonesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These early successes demonstrated the feasibility and impact of MMS in low-resource settings and helped build the evidence base that now supports global policy shifts. Kirk Humanitarian\u2019s consistent support across these programs has been instrumental in moving MMS from pilot to policy to practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Global Communities has played a key role in building momentum for the sustainable scale up of UNIMMAP multiple micronutrient supplements (MMS) in countries with high rates of maternal malnutrition.
